Delilah // Inside My Love
Fresh off supporting Prince on tour in Australia, Delilah is back with “Inside My Love”, which is the fourth single off her debut album “From The Roots Up”.
A cover of the 1970s Minnie Riperton classic, Delilah puts her own sound on it to create something truly special. There’s a low, dark bassline, muted keys and some detailed percussion which give the song a real pensive atmosphere. It’s as if something’s looming, but we’re not quite sure what that something is. But we know it’s there. It’s definitely there. You can feel it in the space of the track - and there’s a lot of space. This gives room for Delilah’s emotive vocals to do all the talking. You can tell she’s nervous, but ready at the same time. She’s been waiting for so long, and wants to know what’s looming ahead.
All this waiting combined with the darkness that surrounds her is really sexy. Mysterious, but sensual. That’s what is so great about Delilah. She has the ability to create an abundance of emotions with just her voice. It’s not the complex production - no; it’s the sparseness of the instrumental, which allows the grain of her vocal to fit in against every last detail of the song. Perfection.
